Eps 183

Infinite Mage

Eps 183 Reversal of the law (4)

"Should I go in?"

"No. Nors uses the ability of nature affinity. We’re at a disadvantage in narrow spaces. They know that too, which is why they're trying to lure us in.

The captain used the power of the Schema to shout in a way that made the cave echo.

"If you don't come out right now, you'll be in for a rough time! I'll count to three!"

His men drew their bows and loaded their arrows.

Although it is not an arrow that causes an explosion like the Arc, the arrow that flies with Schema's strength can pierce even rocks. If you were in the cave, you'd be riddled with holes without a chance to dodge.

"One!"

The cave remained silent.

"Two!"

The captain's expression distorted. Were they determined to die?

The only way the Nors could try was to block the cave using earth magic. But such a stopgap measure wouldn't last long and would effectively cut off their own escape route.

"Three!"

A red dot appeared on the captain's forehead.

As something shot out of the cave, the captain, with superhuman reflexes, drew his sword to shield his face.

But by the time he realized what he had blocked, the projectile had exploded.

"Damn it...!"

With a roar, a fiery explosion engulfed the captain.

The aftereffects of the blast even reached his subordinates, and the startled horses ran wild.

At that moment, Shirone and his party emerged from the cave.

The captain, having fallen from his horse, glared at them with a body smoking from the explosion. Standing up and planting his sword into the ground, he shouted amidst the chaos.

"They're with the Meca Race! Don't let them escape!"

He had been pursuing the Nors and had not expected the Meca race to be involved.

Shirone aimed for that blind spot.

His prediction was correct. Canya and Lena waited for the pursuing Nors to approach through the drone and fired Arc at the right time, creating an opportunity to escape.

"There are too many enemies! Find us a narrow path!"

At Shirone's words, Canya checked the terrain with her drone and changed direction.

The pursuing team fired their arrows.

Despite being shot straight over a distance of 100 meters, the arrows didn't lose speed and whizzed past Shirone and his group.

Clove turned around in annoyance.

"I'll buy us some time!"

No! Just run!"

"We have to strike back once, or the Nors' honor won't survive!"

Clove dipped his hand into shallow water and cast the ancient magic of Shaping.

The stream water began to freeze, turning white as it solidified.

Crackle!

The sound of water freezing echoed through the valley, and pillars similar to those seen in the cave rose from the frozen surface.

Shirone watched the scene even while running.

The scale of the ancient magic, borrowing the power of nature, was much larger than expected. The stream water froze over, and numerous pillars obstructed the view to the extent that it was impossible to proceed on horseback.

There was a loud crack signaled the breaking of the ice.

The faces of the group paled. The pursuing party, having abandoned their horses, was smashing through the ice pillars with swords and fists, charging forward.

"Have the Nors and Meca joined hands? Typical of such lowly heretics!"

Canya shouted, aiming her Arc.

"We are citizens of the divine! Fellow citizens like you have no reason to meddle with the law!"

As soon as she let go of the handle, Arc projectile rushed forward.

A warrior wielding a long sword sliced the projectile in half. Moments later, two fireballs exploded behind him.

"Those who break the law shall be beheaded! We are the chosen first citizens of god!"

The Kerugo pursuit team roared as they raised their weapons.

It looked completely different from the Kerugo civilization seen in the original world. Luxurious armor and extravagant accessories. They were the nobility of the divine citizenry.

Running alongside Canya, Shirone asked.

"Why are they doing this? If we're all divine citizens, why are they fighting us to this extent?"

"It's a heretic hunt. They're among the most devout believers among the divine citizens. As such, they're arrogant and aggressive towards other divine citizens. It's best not to get involved with them."

Shirone kept his mouth shut. They were already deeply entangled.

"Annoying as they are, they're strong because they use the power of giants. Purgatory is a lawless zone, they can do whatever they want. If caught, they won't kill us kindly."

The gap between the pursuit party was gradually narrowing.

This is because not only was every single person using Schema, but Shirone's group was burdened with an injured member, Godlock.

Godlock shouted at Clove.

“Clove! Cast Aeios!"

"It's dangerous! Master, you're injured!"

"If we continue like this, we'll all die anyway! Oi, we'll escape first!"

Godlock cast the wind magic Aeios. As Godlock began to float, Clove also used the same magic to take flight.

Shirone thought of the Fly magic when he saw Aeios. If a similar mechanism were used, it would have been difficult to maintain atmospheric balance in a narrow valley.

As expected, the two people swayed as they climbed higher. It looked like they were going to crash into the cliff at any moment.

Without them, there is no way to get to Nors Shelter. With the thought of needing to save them, Shirone communicated to his friends.

- Take charge of each person! Let's go Teleportation!

Canis wanted to use Dark Port, but since four mages had to move two mecas and two swordsmen, he had no choice but to choose Photonization Magic.

Amy grabbed Tess, and Shirone took Rian. Canis and Arin each grabbed Canya and Lena.

Meanwhile, the pursuit team had almost reached them.

The leading Kerugo raised his sword while on horseback. The silver long sword plummeted toward Shirone's head like lightning.

At that moment, Shirone and his companions transformed into flashes of light and soared upwards.

Godlock and Clove nearly lost their magic.

It's not enough to create light, they turn into light. Moreover, moving the Meca Race at the same time was unthinkable in Heaven.

At least that was the case by human standards.

"How, how did they use light magic without borrowing the power of nature?"

Ancient magic necessarily requires the power of an element. Among them, light is the most challenging.

Light is a weak and widely dispersed force. Therefore, even with ancient magic that borrows the power of nature, concentrating light poses difficulties.

The only time a Nors could cast light magic was when there was a Shining Spot, a place where light gathered.

Clove was distraught.

The Shirone group, which caught up with the height in an instant by Teleportation, were nothing like the contemptible and incompetent imitations he had envisioned.

When he saw Shirone's Shining Magic, he assumed it was just transferring light from some Shining Spot elsewhere. But they were creating light from their bodies.

And as far as he knew, in heaven, there was only one being, besides Ra, who could manipulate light.

Arin, who read the Nors's emotions, relayed this to Physic Channel.

- It seems the Nors don't know about Teleportation magic.

Amy scoffed.

- Hmph! Isn't that obvious? Photonization theory is one of the greatest discoveries in the history of magic, even in our world. If you look down on the geniuses of the land of Earth, it will hurt you a lot.

Amy felt proud of her origins in the Earth country.

But the Kerugo of Heaven were also formidable opponents. They were using external gravity to run vertically up the cliff.

Amy lay horizontally and launched a Fire Strike.

The pursuit party split left and right to avoid the descending spear of flame. Having taken a wide detour around the cliff, they increased their speed, closing the distance with Shirone's group.

- Tch! They're so persistent!

- I'll give it a try.

Arin stretched out her hand and attempted Mind Control. (아린이 촉수를 뻗어 마인드 컨트롤을 시도했다.)

Most of the pursuing party resisted, but one was caught. The warrior dominated by Arin started to attack his comrades, disrupting their formation.

"Stupid fools!"

The captain watching from the bottom of the cliff wrinkled his nose. Then he took a deep breath and roared towards the cliff.

It was the Schema technique, Howling.

"Awoooooo!"

As the echo of the Howling spread along the cliff struck the mages' minds, the Nors's Aeios was released.

Shirone stayed focused and endured. It was a technique that shook the mind itself, like the shout of Ethella's Pama.

Shirone cast teleportation on the falling Godlock. As he grabbed him, Amy flew in and grabbed Clove's ankle.

They cast photonization magic to reset their inertia. As Shirone landed with Rian and Godlock, the rest of his friends soon arrived on the ground.

"Damn! It's always the Howling that's the problem. Nors don't match well with Kerugo."

Godlock, who lost face, made an excuse. It seemed that the teacher and student were not so different after all.

Then, suddenly, he was puzzled. He couldn't understand why Shirone and his group were fine despite also being subjected to the Howling.

“Oi, how come you guys are okay?”

Sometimes, asking innocently can be more annoying. Canis spoke bluntly with those thoughts in mind.

"How could we be okay? My head's ringing like crazy.”

"But how did you cast magic then?"

"Just bear with it. If you get shaken by this much, don't call yourself a mage anywhere."

Unlike the Nors who borrow the power of nature, the magic of the kingdom of Earth is expressed in a state that combines Omniscience and Omnipotence. It's undeniable that it's a more complicated method than ancient magic.

However, this inefficiently refined focus ended up strengthening their mental resilience.

Moreover, Shirone's group included many with special abilities.

Arin, who specialized in mental strength, was an expert in mental defense, while Amy was completely immune due to her Red Eyes ability. Furthermore, Shirone was known to possess the Indestructible Diamond, reputed to rival the effects of the Red Eye in terms of durability.

Clove landed with his face plunged into the stream. Then, with a furious expression, he stood up and turned to Amy.

"You! How dare you dump me?"

He could no longer tolerate Amy's insolent attitude. Her temper was bad, but it also had its own charm, so he endured it, but something like imitation was creeping up to the tips of his head.

"I won't let this go...!"

Clove felt a chill and stopped talking.

Amy's eyes were glowing red. Moreover, the expression with which she stared down the pursuit team felt ghostly cold.

Amy, without even shifting her gaze, said.

"Don't bother me during a battle. I'll indulge your tantrums later."

Clove slowly turned his head. The Kerugo pursuers was approaching with their eyes flashing like wild beasts.

Clove's face was crestfallen.

"It's all over. We're going to get caught. And we'll be tortured until we die..."

"Don't interfere with the plan and come in if you're not going to fight."

What's the point of showing weakness when even a victory in momentum would still leave us at a disadvantage?

Amy grabbed Clove by the scruff of his neck and pulled, causing his legs to give way and he fell to his buttocks.

This time, even Godlock, usually attentive to his disciple, asked Amy without paying him any mind.

"Do we have a plan?"

"I'm not sure, but it seems we've managed to time it right. Shirone, is everything set?"

"Yeah. It was close."

Godlock tilted his head and asked back.

"What are you talking about? What's set?"

Shirone looked up at the sky. His Spirit Zone was reaching the sky in a bent shape from a Four-Way Zone targeting type. Because it was a unique form, it took quite some time to transform.

Without touching them, Shirone had cast photonization magic on everyone. It was the Mass Teleport magic he had realized at the cost of his life on an uncrossable bridge cliff.

"Hurry up! They're planning to escape again!"

The captain of the pursuit team urged his men to charge. And then, he took a deep breath and let out a Howling.

A loud noise swept over Shirone and his group. Godlock and Clove frowned, but the Indestructible Diamond did not waver. Compared to Marsha's Sonic Cannon, it was nothing more than noise.

Shirone calmly watched the captain as if to break the enemies' morale and then cast Mass Teleport.

A thick flash engulfed the group, lifting them to the top of the cliff where the Spirit Zone had reached.

"Shit! Howling doesn’t work!”

The captain of the pursuit team ground his teeth in frustration.
